Dedication and [00:06:31] The Holy Spirit of the Holy Spirit He is risen. [00:07:09] How do you know that? Amen. Do I have an amen to that? How do you know he lives in you? How do you know he lives in Glenn? There, I'll make it personal. How do you know he lives in Glenn, the rest of you? Amen. Amen. Another response to that. I believe, Brother Tom, it is the greatest message for all of mankind, but could I say it a way, keep it a little more personal this morning and say, especially for those, the household of faith, yet it is for everybody, because Christ came for you, for me, that profess His name, but it's a gift. [00:08:00] That's for everybody, whoever wants to reach out and say, I accept you, Lord, as my Savior. I've chosen to read the account this morning in Luke 24, but not taking a lot of time in necessarily looking at Luke 24. But I believe Easter Sunday, we cannot go through an Easter service without reading one of the accounts that give witness that our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, is no longer in the tomb. And the witness that we have is, this morning, the witness that we had in response, that we know because He lives within us, and I can look at Brother Thomas and Sister Marjorie up here and see by their face the expectation of another Easter Sunday morning, but I believe it's there every morning, not just Sunday morning or Easter Sunday morning, but it's there every morning, because every morning is a new day for us to serve our risen Lord and Savior, [00:08:58] Because he is risen. And the tomb is empty. And he is today seated at the right hand of Almighty God, interceding for me and for you every single moment of our lives. Luke chapter 24, verse 1. Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, and we're here very early this morning for a Sunday morning, right? Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, They came into the sepulcher bringing spices which they prepared and certain others with them. [00:09:29] And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulcher. And they entered in, found not the body of the Lord Jesus Christ. I must read that again. And they entered in and found not the body of the Lord Jesus. Hallelujah. And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. And as they were afraid and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? [00:10:01] Wow, what a statement. Why seek ye the living among the dead? We could add to that, He is not here because He is risen. Amen? It's just like He said He was. He's not here because He is risen. Remember, how He spake unto you when He was yet in Galilee, saying, The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified. and the third day rise again. Aha! A memory came to them in verse 8 and it says that they remembered His words [00:10:32] and returned from the supper and told all those things unto the leaven and to all the rest. It was Mary Magdalene and Joanna the mother and Mary the mother of James and other women that were with them which told these things unto the apostles and their words seemed to them as idle tales and they believed them not. Then arose Peter and ran at the supper and stooping down he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves and departed wandering in himself at that which was come to pass The next account, I'm not going to read it, but it's the story of eyewitnesses of the risen Lord and Savior Jesus Christ [00:11:09] You see, brothers and sisters, for us today, we have within us and we have the witness of the Spirit telling us that Jesus Christ is risen and then among ourselves as we gave witness this morning that we see it in each other that He is risen. Then we need to also go back, I believe it's good to go back sometimes and remember those things in the past that are those good things because we can hang on to this that there are eyewitnesses that Jesus Christ is no longer in the grave. [00:11:40] That the tomb is empty but the eyewitnesses is also there that He is risen. He is no longer there. The witness of this morning is that the tomb is empty. He is no longer there. He is now interceding at the right hand of Almighty God as He said He would. Yet while He was here, the people that were around Him were looking for something other than what Christ was wanting to bring to them. Because we can see it here in the road to Emmaus. And remember also the story in Matthew 20, the two sons of Zebedee, that their mother wanted them to have something. [00:12:13] So they were expecting something a little bit different than what Christ was really wanting to bring. But that doesn't take away from the fact that Christ came, walked on this earth in fleshly form, and then became that ultimate sacrifice. As we think of the life of Christ, No. [00:12:46] It was the ultimate plan of God. But why did it have to be that? And as I studied this message, I had to reflect back on the message that Harold brought from Hebrews. And how beautiful that brings out many different things, aspects of it. But as we think about this morning, I'd like to have our minds drawn to something, that we today live in this mortal flesh. We live, we are born and we live, and you know the way things are nowadays, some live beyond even expectation sometimes, that they just hang on to life. [00:13:18] But it doesn't really matter how long we live, if we are killed or die at a young age, or die to a ripe old age, or whatever that may be. We live in this fleshly body and I believe that one of the reasons that Christ came and lived in a fleshly form, He was God yet He was man, number one He set an example for you and for me. He said He was like we, He had passions like as we, yet He was without sin. I believe that if Christ or if God would have had any other plan, you and I would, it would be almost futile to try to live a holy life with this flesh [00:13:52] because this whole fleshly body has still its carnal mind and its mindset of doing things after the flesh. And so, with that I must tell you this morning that this past week as I began to study and look at this, it was like there were some things in my heart that the Lord showed me that I just need to take out and lay them on the altar and let the Lord, the risen Lord, the risen Lord, take care of those fleshly things because yet at the same time, I want to encourage you this morning that Christ came to give us life, but is that all? [00:14:23] Was that all? You know, I'm afraid that sometimes in church, and people that have been in church for many years have simply accepted Christ as a ticket to heaven and going the other direction from hell. But it's much more than that. It is much more than that. It is a life that He wants us to live that is abundant, so that every morning we thank the Lord that He has allowed us to sleep another night, to rest another night, and even though it may be unrestful for some particular reason, that we thank the Lord He allowed us, and I do this simple way, and I literally do this. Sometimes I say, Lord, thank you this morning that I went from horizontal to vertical. [00:14:59] Because you know why I say this, and I even say this to the Lord, because I know that if I'd stay horizontal for about three days, they'd just tick me in a box and put me in a hole in the ground. But you know what, that wouldn't be so bad, would it? Because where would I really be? Would I still be there? No, I wouldn't be there. My fleshly body would be there, but I wouldn't be there. Where would I be? Oh, brothers and sisters, when I think about that, and you know where the things are in the world, the turmoil, it's going to be soon. I believe that the Lord will say, okay, Jesus, go get your bride. Go get them. So we should be every moment of our lives being in expectation of that. [00:15:34] And with that expectation, I really believe that we as the people of God should live the life that is the fullest. Meaning that we should be the most joyous people and the easiest people to get along with each other. because God came in the form of Jesus Christ in the flesh so that my flesh is crucified so that I, John David Yoder, can crucify His flesh and live in the fullness of the Spirit after Jesus Christ and to live as an example, being able to speak words of encouragement, being able to speak words that will lift up people, being able to speak words that bless people, [00:16:09] being able to encourage the body of believers. I ask you this question, what really are to you, in your mind this morning, the spiritual implications of the risen Lord and Savior? Is it just that He's my Savior? And when I need something, I just go to Him and I pray to Him and I want this, I want that. He knows the desires of the heart, so that may enter into it a little bit as a picture, but I think sometimes it's too much that way. [00:16:42] Anabaptist, Anabaptist, Anabaptist, Anabaptist What does it really mean that Christ is risen and now interceding on the right hand of the Father? [00:17:21] Romans chapter 6, and some of these verses I'm just going to refer to because of time, but I want to read a couple of verses here in Romans chapter 6. As I think of Christ being buried in the tomb, How that he literally uses that same terminology for my life in the flesh. That my flesh is buried with Christ. We read that over and over in scripture. What is he really trying to convey to you and to me this morning? When he says that I am buried with Christ. [00:17:54] When I put my own name in there, where it says in verse 4, I need to read verse 3. Knowing ye not that many of us were baptized into Jesus Christ, were baptized into his death. How can I be baptized into the death of Christ? What is he trying to tell me this morning? Therefore we are buried with him. A degree of answer comes next. Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death. That is, that like as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. [00:18:28] And that word newness I have underlined and the outside of my Bible I have written in. Refreshing of life When you think of, and I remember as a boy when we'd bale hay hot summertime My favorite place to bale hay was over at my brother Junior's Because his wife Barbara would many times come out with these little Tupperware cups That had a lid on it, and right in the middle had that little lid you popped open But you know what was in that Tupperware cup? Man, she made the best milkshakes [00:18:58] Wow! She'd come out and we'd be hot and sweaty and yeah, we'd drink water, but it seemed like when we were almost finished putting the hay off the wagons and the hay miles, she'd come out with these ice cold refreshing. I'm telling you, that's just refreshing. Take that cold, it'd help cool your body. It was refreshing. So get that in your mind as you think about that, as I think about that. I have to ask myself, honestly, and look in the mirror and say, Are you that refreshing to your brother and to your sister in the church? [00:19:34] You see, that newness of life should be something that is refreshing. That we meet each other, we come to church on Sunday morning, we put on our best faces and we refresh each other. But what about Monday morning? Or let's move to the end of the week and we had a terrible weekend. What about Friday morning when we meet our brothers and sisters or Friday during the day or Saturday? Am I still refreshing to my brother and to my sister? You see, the death, the burial, and the resurrection of Christ allows my flesh to live beyond its carnality, meaning its sinful desires. [00:20:07] These sinful desires will be here unless I continually, day by day, crucify this flesh with Christ, as he says in Romans. Therefore, he says, we are buried with him. Doesn't say we shall be when we die, now. He's speaking about the now because God's kingdom, my brothers and sisters, is here now, within us. His desire is that we take our flesh and we crucify it by the power of the blood. Now, does that mean that we are really radical and we strap bombs on ourselves and we blow up other people and that really gives us favor with God? [00:20:43] No, not at all. But I do believe, even in this day, that I can use this word, radical. that we must be radical believers, meaning that we can speak the truth of God and His love to those around us and to those that have no clue who we are in Christ. And opportunities, opportunities are among us. A few weeks ago, I think it was a few weeks ago, a lady came in and she looked kind of teary-eyed. Matter of fact, Brother Harold was there, Glenn was there, and it was just like she wanted a copy of a quote that I had done for her [00:21:16] and I could just tell. I said, what in the world is going on? So I just asked her a few questions and she broke down and she began to cry and I said come on in here. She came into my office and I began to just ask her questions. Does she really know Christ? From what appears to me, no, but she lives close by and opportunity is there and I believe there will be more opportunities. It doesn't matter who, even if they're not born again believers, we can bring words of encouragement to them because in the future they will remember that. Maybe they will come back. [00:21:47] And I am believing by faith that maybe her husband and her husband will come back one day or maybe I want to go talk to them about a building and maybe they do buy materials from us that we can witness the testimony of Christ to them. Opportunities are about us to share the risen Savior Jesus Christ because He lives within me and He lives within you. Brethren and sisters, He did that so that my flesh, though it has its fleshly desires, is continually crucified. He says we have been planted together in the likeness of His death. [00:22:19] We shall also in the likeness of His resurrection. What happened when He rose from the grave? Did He say something to the ladies that wanted to touch Him and embrace Him and say, hey, don't touch me yet? Part of his glorified body was so powerful yet influenced by the Holy Spirit that if the flesh would have touched him, what would have happened? I don't know. Do I understand all of that? No. But I would like to believe that there was so much power in Christ right after he rose again. The glory of the Father was upon him so powerfully [00:22:52] because he had found ultimate favor because he sacrificed the best he could. He gave his life. He did it for you. He did it for me. But not only us, also the world. And so often we, as church, sometimes we forget that he did it for those sinful people. He did it for those people we can't really get along with. He did it for the people that, yes, the radicals that the world labels as radicals. Those that blow themselves up and kill other people and we get kind of aggravated sometimes. Why are they doing those things? They began to label us as believers as radical for the wrong reasons. [00:23:26] I believe it's time that the church in America rise up. They call us radical for the right reasons, meaning that how in the world can those people love each other like that? They're just humans. How can they love their neighbors and do the things that they do? Because the glory of the Father was with us because we have chosen to crucify the flesh. Brothers and sisters, it's not always easy. I had to dig deep within myself this past week. I said, Lord, I see those areas that I have to take, have a lot of thought patterns to come. I had to crucify the flesh and say Lord I know it's wrong [00:24:00] I choose today to take it from my heart because that's where our hearts are desperately wicked but yet it causes our mind to do things and I just had to say Lord I choose I choose to take it and I lay it on your altar and I allow you to kill that thing and I allow you to kill my flesh once again so that my flesh desires can be crucified so that I have the privilege to be buried in Christ That's what the Word of God says. It's not me, it is the Word of Almighty God. Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with Him, [00:24:32] that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. I believe the risen Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has allowed me and you to be buried and die to our fleshly desires. Yet we still have this flesh. When I look at you, I see and I recognize you by your names. You recognize me by my name. How often do we meet each other and bless each other with a spiritual saying, [00:25:08] This morning I see a reflection of Jesus Christ in you. Do you see the reflection of Christ in me? We must be a reflection of Christ because he died and he suffered and he agonized In Isaiah 53 it talks about that. That he was wounded for our transgressions. He was beat upon because one day he knew that a boy named John David Yoder would be born in this world and then he would become a man. He knew that he would have fleshly desires and he knew that he needed something more than he could do himself. [00:25:43] He knew it was more than just taking the name Yoder upon himself. He knew that it was more than just being a part of a church and being a member of a church. He knew all those things. And yet he was willing to say, I will take upon him, upon myself, his form So that he can live a life that is abundant So that one day he can recognize that he must be buried with me That's Jesus, he can be buried because of scripture, that's why I say it this way See when we know these things, we've been planted together [00:26:14] What happens, and the Bible talks about this by the way, it's that season of time where I'm sure some of you farmers are just chomping at the bit to put some seeds in the ground. It's coming. It'll warm up one of these days. But think about that little seed that's put in the ground. The Bible uses that as an illustration. What happens to that seed? It must die to itself first, right? What happens then when it does die? The outer shell of a corn is pretty tough. And they say for years and years, even hundreds of years, if it's kept dry, it still keeps its nutrients. [00:26:47] It keeps its value for food. But as it dies to itself, what happens? Doesn't something new come out of it? Newness comes out. And when you plant your gardens, you look with anticipation, all of a sudden. And many of us, even no longer being a farmer, but you know, in a few weeks we'll come to church some Sunday morning and we'll say, Wow, that big field that LeVon planted, I could see the rose, I could see the corn. You see, there's newness, something coming new. [00:27:19] We see that newness. Every spring, over and over, we see it again. Let's condense that down to every day. When people see me and they see you, do they see newness and freshness that the scripture talks about? You see, he used that word newness. We should walk in newness of life or a freshness of life. Why and how can I do that? Only because Christ was willing to die on the cross because he knew that you and I would live a life that was full of itself but yet now has allowed to become according to Ephesians 2.5 [00:27:55] Even when we were dead in trespasses, he, Jesus, made us alive together with Christ. It is only by grace that you are saved. It is only by grace that I am saved. He has raised us up together. Together? What does he mean by that, together? And made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. You mean, this tells me that in my flesh I have the right to sit with more holy people? [00:28:27] That I have the right to sit with the purity and the holiness of Christ? Brothers and sisters, that's what it says. Amen? that we have the right to live a life that is fit for the kingdom and the glories of heaven. Wow! What did Christ accomplish on this earth? The Bible says He came to do what? To bring healing? To bring restoration? Blind eyes could see physical things, but they also come and mean a spiritual thing [00:28:59] because my blind eyes could only see by the grace of God and by coming and recognizing that Jesus Christ is who he said he was. You see, Isaiah foretold of that, that he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities, he was chastened by the power of peace upon him, and by his stripes we are healed. Not maybe, not probably, not possibly. It says, are healed. Meaning that my old fleshly desires are taken away. Excuse me, are taken away. [00:29:31] And they're filled by the things of the Spirit Colossians 2.12 Buried with him in baptism in which also you were raised with him through faith in the working of God Who raised him, Christ, from the dead You see Christ was put in the grave but he was willing Was he not? Was he not willing to follow after? There was a season of time there for a moment We saw his fleshly desires wanting to have something else in the garden He prayed and it says he came as great sweat drops of blood And he said, Father, is there some other way? I don't want to do this. [00:30:04] Well, maybe that's not exactly what it is, but I see that in his flesh. He wanted something else, but then he took care of it all when he said, Not my will, my Father, but your holy will be done with me. Oh, I thank God this morning that he was willing to pray that way and say, I give it myself. He was willing to give Himself so that you and me, in a lost world, can recognize that we can live with the crucified Christ. You mean, I have the right to live a life that is holy before Almighty God? [00:30:38] Yes, I do, according to the authority of Scripture. Galatians 5, 16-26. We can summarize this up. I don't have time to read it all. So I summarize this up and say the works of the flesh are broken because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Verse 24, Galatians 5, 24. Those who are Christ have been crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. You mean my passions, my personal passions, my personal desires can be crucified, can be laid up on the altar, and the Lord can take care of it? [00:31:09] That's what the Word of God says. And I accept it by faith because I know that Christ was crucified. Most importantly, I know that he was risen again because the Bible says that he is risen and there's eyewitnesses. In 1 Corinthians, we see that there was 500 people who witnessed Jesus Christ walking on this earth after he died. And let me tell you something. The Romans were people that were very intelligent. And the Roman centurion and the soldiers that witnessed Christ on the cross, [00:31:39] they would not have taken him off that cross if he wouldn't have been dead. He wasn't just unconscious. He was dead, dead. There was no life in that body anymore. They took him off that cross. He was dead. They put him in that grave. According to Romans, it says the Holy Spirit of God came down into the body of Christ and he did what? Brought him to life. He brought him to life. So that you and I can have a life that we can live that is more abundant than anything else that we can ever comprehend. [00:32:12] Meaning that our life should be the fullness of Christ. Should be a reflection of Christ. Because Ephesians 2 says, even when we're dead in trespasses, He has made us alive together by Christ It is because He has raised us up together to live in heavenly places in the Spirit So that my flesh can be crucified, my flesh can be taken care of, and it's flesh desires Romans 8 verse 1 says, there is now, meaning right now, at this moment in time, at this moment in history No condemnation to those who are in Christ, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. [00:32:51] No condemnation. What does it mean to you, Brother John? Does it mean no means none? Mean there's no condemnation? None at all. Zero condemnation against me. Even though the old devil likes to remind us of it, doesn't he? He sure does. Oh, look what you did. He tries his best to bring discouragement to the believer with all the stuff that's going on in the world, the turmoil that's in the world. He is trying his best to bring it to us, to bring condemnation to us, but we have the right, brothers and sisters, to say, [00:33:21] I am not condemned because I am in Christ and I choose this day to walk after the Spirit and not after its fleshly desires. Brothers and sisters, God came in a form of man in Jesus Christ. He allowed Jesus to be that supreme and that fine example of a man that was endued with wisdom and power, but yet he was willing to take that power and let it be on the cross. The Bible says he could have called ten legions of angels, thousands upon thousands of angels. He could have said, oh, pfft, they'd have been destroyed. [00:33:54] But no, he chose to humble himself, become obedient as a servant to death, even the death of the cross, according to Scripture. Brethren and sisters, are you living a life that is full or just half full? The fullness of Christ is in you because Jesus rose from the dead and is now interceding at the right hand of God. Brothers and sisters, if you're not living a full life, you can. You have that privilege. Crucify your flesh, take its flesh desires, lay it on the cross and live a life that's fullness that God expects of you. [00:34:25] What does He expect of me and you today? Does He expect us to be discouraged about the turmoil of the world? No, because I've preached in the last number of weeks, I've preached a message simply entitled, Look Up, Your Redemption Draweth Nigh. Ooh, brothers and sisters, I get excited. You know how when I was a little kid and I'd hear all sorts of gloom and doom messages, man, I'd walk out of there and say, ooh, I don't even know if I want to get old. Now that I am old, getting older, feel older sometimes, I get more excited when I see those things because the Bible says, Look up, your redemption. Who is our redemption? [00:34:56] Jesus Christ. So though this whole world is in, I mean, it's a, phew, every day the news is something negative about something. Somebody shoots somebody else and somebody shoots some kids and somebody kills some kids and then somebody blows up somebody else and somebody's, boom, on and on. But look, you know what? Part of that gets me excited because I look at the Bible and say, look up, your redemption draw nigh. That means soon Jesus is coming and it's the risen Savior, Jesus Christ, is coming back from the church and the church that he wants to see, what kind of church does he want to see? He wants to see a church that's half asleep. He wants to see a church that's just living a mediocre life. [00:35:29] He wants to see a church of people that are just halfway discouraged most of the time. And a church that's just walking around like, oh, well, what does he want? He wants a bride that's ready with expectation and is looking forward to meeting him. Are you looking forward to meeting him? Brothers and sisters, listen, if you have some things in your flesh that are hindering the freedom and the fullness of the Spirit, it's pretty simple. Not easy, okay? But pretty simple. You simply need to say, Lord Jesus, this morning, I choose to crucify this fleshly desire that I am battling with, and I choose to put it on the altar, and I choose to let you crucify me. [00:36:05] Put your name there once again. Are we willing to do that, anew and afresh, this morning? What better time to do it than Easter Sunday morning? I'd like to invite you to stand, please, as we pray. I think my time is just a way of moving on rapidly this morning. But I just trust this morning you've been encouraged to a degree to live a life that is a life of fullness. Have you allowed some things to struggle? Just get rid of them. I challenge you, not because I did it, but because God wants you to do it. I'd like to ask you to bow your heads. And just for a moment of silence, is there some besetting thing, something you've been struggling with, [00:36:42] and you're willing to say, Lord Jesus, I take it. You take it. Lord Jesus, you take it from me, and I choose to crucify my flesh. I simply like leading a prayer, but you just pray for a moment. We'll just take a minute or so of complete silence before the Lord as you pray right where you're at, because God knows exactly where you're at. Lord Jesus, this morning, I thank you. [00:37:25] I thank you, Lord Jesus, that you were willing to come on this earth to walk as an example and then to die as a sacrifice for my sins. Lord Jesus, you know exactly this whole fleshly heart. Lord, those today under the sound of my voice and under the power of your Holy Spirit, He would touch them. There are some besetting sins, Lord, we choose today to take it from our hearts, from our thoughts. [00:37:59] Lay them this morning upon your altar. We choose to do that because we know you, Lord Jesus, want to live a life of abundance. We choose today, Lord Jesus, to live anew and afresh for you. Almighty God, I pray in your holy name. And in the mighty name of your Son, Jesus Christ, and in the power of your Holy Spirit, you would visit us here this morning in this assembly with a newness and a freshness of life. [00:38:31] Father, I pray there would be a fresh anointing upon us by your Holy Spirit's power. God, I pray that it would be reflected by the witness of our singing this morning, that it would come from deep within our souls and our spirits to glorify you. God, we are doing it for one reason. We're not going to sing for people that are in a retirement center. We're there to glorify You first and foremost. And let that be first and foremost in our thoughts that we're doing it for You. And the fringe benefit is that Your kingdom, Your people here will be encouraged and blessed. [00:39:02] Oh God, I pray You would bless us this day. And the reason we want that blessing is so that our flesh is crucified anew and afresh. And that we live fully for You, Lord. Let us live a life that is abundant and be a reflection of Jesus Christ.
