[00:00:00] You all know 2 Corinthians 5 verse 17 Therefore, if, very important word, any man be in Christ, he is a new creature, a new creation all things are passed away behold God says [00:00:30] to everyone in the world that knows you beginning with your family and including your worst enemy and not one will argue if you're saved behold look look all things have become new all things are become new if any man be in Christ he's a new creature God says [00:01:00] all things are passed away behold look look look all things are become new if any man be in Christ if you've never come to Christ in truth No one in this entire world will be able to say that of you, beginning with your family. 1 John, chapter 2, verse 3, And hereby we do know that we know him. [00:01:36] Hereby we do know that we know him If we keep his commandments He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar God says, God says Hereby we do know that we know him If we keep his commandments, he that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. [00:02:16] The truth is not in him. James, chapter 2, verse 14. What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warm and filled, [00:02:49] notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful for the body, what does it profit? Even so, faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith. and I have works show me thy faith without thy works and I will show thee my faith by my works [00:03:20] I will show thee my faith by my works thou believest that there is one God thou doest well The devils also believe and tremble, but wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? Now that word is a staggering word. Faith without works is worthless in its context in the eyes of God and to God. [00:03:56] Worth nothing. Totally worthless. Wilt thou know, vain man, that faith without works is dead? James was not saying that you are saved by works. Don't believe that. There's no such a thing as a controversy in the Bible. People say there is. Oh. But there is no such a thing. What you can't understand now, give God time. You'll understand there's no such a thing as a contradiction in the Bible. James was not contradicting Paul. [00:04:28] Therefore, you're not saved by works. Don't believe James is saying that. No, you're saved by faith. And Paul said, for by grace are ye saved through faith, not of works. By grace are ye saved through faith. And that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God. Not of works, as then he managed to boast, Ephesians 2 verse 8 and 9 To him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted to him for righteousness [00:05:04] Romans 4 verse 5 Not having mine own righteousness which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ The righteousness which is of God by faith Philippians 3 verse 9 No, James was not now making a contention against Paul's teachings There's no such a thing in the Bible He taught, he believed exactly what Paul believed And Paul taught exactly what he taught If you read all the writings of Paul [00:05:35] So, James is not saying you're saved by works No, you're saved by faith But you're not saved unless your faith works you're not saved by works you're saved by faith but you are not saved unless your faith works, brings your life to correspond to what God says will happen if you are saved [00:06:06] don't ever doubt that I have three sons Don't think I'm crazy when I said I had three sons years ago to some Mennonite group or Hutterite, I don't know and they said, what went wrong? Why only three? And I felt very sane and I said, well my wife couldn't have children after our third baby [00:06:36] that was God's will we don't argue with it she nearly died in the birth of our last son and, well, trust me, three was enough for us. Trust me, don't doubt that either. Oh, we had these three delightful children, amazing children. There's Noel, he's 30 years old, six foot something or other up there. Roy, white mop of hair to this day, with a couple of crowns. [00:07:08] Oh, he's about six foot four. Noel and Roy, then we had a gap. And we had a surprise, what we call a lot, Lomaki, in our language back home. A late addition, a surprise, okay. What a shocking surprise he was. Samuel. There you are, he nearly died at birth. And Jenny held on to life, they thought she was going. And she named him Samuel, asked of God, because as she thought she was dying, she asked God to let this child live. So she called him Samuel. [00:07:39] Oh, darling Samuel. Well, there's our three boys. Now, Noel and Roy. I'm going back years now to when they were very small, okay? Very small. How old are you? Fourteen. And how old are you? Ten. Stand up. Quickly. Good. You're not shy. You must be a preacher one day. Okay, there's one, and let's see, somebody pretty close to the other one, anyway, 10 and a little bit younger, something like that, no, and Roy, Shamba wasn't even born, okay, but they were brothers, but they were so different. [00:08:25] You would not believe they're from the same planet, let alone the same family. Trust me, I don't know if your children are like that, but these boys were so different. No, it was so good that it was unnerving. Other children lived in absolute exasperation that they were such a good child. He was near to perfect. Have you ever had a time like that? My word, you say to no, no. It's bedtime now, pick up your toys, put your books away and go to bed. Yes daddy, no argument, bow. That was Noel, it was exemplary, it was wonderful. [00:09:01] And children used to get a bit unnerved by Noel because I heard one of the greatest preachers of South Africa and one of the most loved preachers in the history of our country I heard that he said to his children in front of a lot of people You see Noel Daniel, that Keith Daniel's son, you see him, that's what you should be like. He's exemplary. He's everything a preacher's son should be. Now you should be like Lord Daniel. There you are. That was no. Loved, revered, and feared. [00:09:32] Because he was so good, he didn't know how to do anything but be good. That was no. It was a joy. Now Roy was the exact opposite. I mean the exact opposite. He was the naughtiest boy that ever lived. You might say that's impossible. How can you say? Trust me, if you had been in my home, you would not argue. There, I doubt, has ever been a naughtier boy in history than Roy. My son, Roy. [00:10:02] If the Guinness Book of Records had a way of surveying truthfully who was really the naughtiest little boy that ever lived, it was Roy. Trust me, don't ever doubt that now. Oh, if there was anything to do that shouldn't be done, Roy didn't hesitate, he did it, it doesn't matter what the consequences, boy the consequences would be but no matter what the outcome or result or consequences, Roy would do these incredibly awful things [00:10:39] it was so bad, you know, Noel lived in fear of life Noel wanted only the smile of mother and father and everybody else and he honestly wanted only that And Roy wanted trouble. Well, he didn't want it, but he only got into trouble. And we used to hear no shouting, or people would say no screaming. Roy, stop, stop, just wait, let me get away. I don't want to get into trouble. Hurry. We knew then, run, because Roy is doing something atrocious. Outrageous, probably painting the neighbor's car. [00:11:13] or the fridge with some paint or something, you know, you can't believe. It was incomprehensible, the things he did. Now you might think we're the only ones that got fright, but I saw people come here to heart attacks. People in pulpits. One poor old man, he had no hair. Well, he wasn't old, he was young. But he was a priest and we dared to go there because I preached in their pulpit many times in Africa. and we were sitting in the front row, ah tragically, to a very full church and Roy was on my lap [00:11:46] and the dear preacher was starting to preach, now Roy didn't ever listen to anything in that church but suddenly he looks at the preacher and he gets up and before I could stop him he's walking forward and those preachers are looking at him, everybody's looking at this little boy with white hair, you can't believe his hair it wasn't blonde, it was so white it was terrifying Anyway, there he's walking up and the preacher looks at him and he says, Daddy! He's got no hair! So, where's the preacher? Everybody starts laughing because he screamed. Roy has a shrieking voice. He's got no hair! [00:12:24] So I said, Roy! Why's he got no hair? What happened? What's wrong with him? That's putting it mild. We could never go there again. And I was never invited to preach there again. That's some of the mild things that happened with our darling Roy. But that was Roy. Why? Don't ask me why. Don't you dare blame me. We had an exemplary son that was so exemplary he unnerves everybody. But where did he come from? I don't know. Roy. Oh, Roy. [00:12:58] One day his granny was visiting. My mother, my darling mother, who just passed away. Almost the day that Denny Kenniston passed away. But my mother was visiting there those days when they were young up in Pietermaritzburg in Natal in Africa So, suddenly we hear screams, we hear shouts, we hear people we see people running and we know something terrible happened So we run, it was Roy I can't tell you what he was doing None of you would sit, you would leave the building [00:13:29] that such a preacher had such a son So I can't even tell you what he'd done nonetheless we're all standing there people were so shocked nobody could do anything you know they just looked oh gosh even my mother she was really shaken and now we're all standing there gasping and I did something unusual I looked and I didn't stop him I was just too undone in shock where does he come from I shouted you know where does he come from and my mother [00:14:02] Mother, standing behind me, said these words. He's exactly like you were when you were that age. I said, Mother, don't say that. That's not true. Oh, it is. You did things like, you set the house on fire, don't you, Paul? Well, anyway, terrifying things. I said, Mother, you should never. And Roy actually stopped at hearing his granny and he looked and smiled. He knows where he comes from now. well he says no doubt now that was our darling Roy [00:14:34] oh my one day we were on the farm of Granny and Grandpa Opa and Oma we call them in Africa Opa and Oma, Granny and Grandpa had a farm in the great Gamtoos Valley great irrigation scheme known books and books written about this amazing irrigation scheme in Africa where it's the water shed It was the breadbasket of a great part of Africa, because it's the only river there is. Well, they have farm there, and we would spend our holidays, go to granny and grandpa. [00:15:07] And, well, I noticed something about Jenny's father and mother, a lot of Afrikaans speaking people. And I noticed when I was courting Jenny, there was something unique and amazing about these people. This family of about six brothers, all farmers, with their wives who were all sisters, and almost all of them sisters of the same families, and all the children. And I noticed something that I've never seen before in history. [00:15:41] I noticed that every single person in the room was speaking at the same time. You might not believe that. I couldn't believe it. I said, sit there, and I thought, but how is this possible? I mean, every single person is speaking. Who's listening? Now, only the Afrikaner can do that. There are languages that came from all the European, France, Huguenots, French, all escaping religious persecution hundreds of years ago came to Africa. [00:16:11] And the language formed Afrikaner. Now, these people, there's nobody on earth, I think, but the Afrikaner that can do that. Now, I'm English speaking, of course, I'm bilingual, everybody knows their language, but There they all, you know, it's like a market, you go, oh, everybody's speaking louder, everybody's speaking faster in this language. I thought it was amazing, but I noticed something else. One of the brothers, the eldest brother, was Uncle Peter, Unpita. Now Uncle Peter was revered, and this is something in Africa, a great part of Africa that's still there, to a great degree. [00:16:48] The eldest, or someone older, you respect. You show deep respect to someone older than you. It's vanished in most of the world though, but this was the part of Uncle Peter, who was really a father figure, because when Daddy went, he really was the father figure. And Uncle Peter, whenever he spoke, every single person stopped speaking. Out of respect, the children, suddenly, everybody, no matter who was speaking, boom, Uncle Peter speaking. And everybody gave attention. That was lovely. [00:17:20] It's the only time they all stopped speaking. Don't stop. Uncle Peter, godly, god-fearing old man. Now, one day, we were all on the farm. It was Christmas time or something and all the school holidays and all the family. They all came to the farm of Opa and Oma. Granny and Grandpa, Yanni and Auntie Enid. Well, they're all the cousins and trust me, there's a good tribe. Maybe they're not as big as your families, 19 children and so. But they had a lot of children. And there all the cousins are running in the trees and climbing the trees and down the river with the little moats and it was lovely. There I loved the farm. And Noel and Roy with all their cousins over the holidays all together. And all the grown-ups were inside the lounge and the dining room and they're all sitting and what are they doing? Just talking. Like you can't believe it. I would just sit there quiet most of the time because I could never just speak to somebody that was speaking back or that, you know, it was just impossible. So I just used to sit quietly a lot. [00:18:19] Anyway, there they were with the rrrrrr and suddenly all the children ran inside. Why? Cookies. We want cookies and cool drink, you know. So don't speak to the grown-ups, leave them. Just come all, a couple of them, granny, a few grannies got up and they all helped the children with cookies and cold drinks, you see. Ah! And all the grown-ups are speaking while in the dining room on this beautiful table with all cakes and cookies, etc. etc. They are all helping these quiet children, a good 30 of these kids. And all cousins. Nonetheless, suddenly, Uncle Peter, with a loud voice, No! There's little Noel, and there's little Roy, and there's all the cousins, all waiting for cookies. No! Everybody stopped speaking. Noel looked fearfully across the room and everybody [00:19:17] I looked at him and looked at Uncle Peter and in Uncle Peter who was dying of cancer he died just shortly afterwards but Uncle Peter said these words to Noah Noah, are you saved from hell? Do you know you're not going to hell, Noah? Are you sure you're born again, Noah? because except a man be born again [00:19:48] he cannot see the kingdom of God there's no possibility of going to heaven when you're born you're born of the flesh you're born a child of your father and mother you're not born a child of God no one's born a child of God outside of Christ you must be born again not a physical birth but there's a point you become God's child it involves the intellect it involves faith it involves the heart and a baby can't do that all you are is a child of your father and mother until you become a child of God [00:20:19] and that doesn't happen at birth you must be born again are you sure you are born again now? are you sure you can give me the date of your birth when you became a child of your father and mother you can tell me the place can you give me the date? the place where you became God's child When God, by the faith in the blood of Jesus Christ, in the death of Christ, forgave all your sins and cleansed you in the blood of Christ, the blood of Jesus Christ has cleansed us from all sin. [00:20:50] And the Holy Spirit, poor witness of the old spirit, that you know, that you know, from that moment you have no doubt God saved your soul and you have no fear of hell. because of the Holy Spirit bearing witness with your spirit that you really have become God's child. No! Are you sure that you are God's child? That you are born again? That you are not going to hell? Are you sure that you sure know? And you have no doubt? [00:21:24] Now every single person in that room, and it was a lot of people, trust me, not quite as many as there are now, but just about, Looked at Noah. Imagine that happening to you. Wait, I'm going to get his eyes. Here's you. Don't worry, I'm just getting your attention now. You don't stop looking at me. Do you understand? There you are. Okay. Suddenly every single family member of our family was looking at Noah. [00:21:55] And Roy had his mouth open in shock, looking at Noah. And Noah stood there. trembling of course, he was shy but he was really trembling and he pulled his back straight because I prayed I prayed, no God this won't happen very easily again in his life where every single person that knows him of his own blood will listen to whether he's saved or not and give attention. What are you going to do now [00:22:29] No, no, no. And I just sat there praying for him. He pulled his back up and he said with a loud voice, which unnerves everybody because he was really, he was fearful, but he said with a loud voice for a little boy. Yes Uncle Peter, I know I'm saved from hell, I know I'm God's child, I know when I became a Christian I know the day, I know the place, and I know that I know, I have no doubt [00:23:01] I've sat in meetings where children were called out to come and give their lives to Christ in the conferences where daddy speaks I've never wanted to, I've never felt any desire to because I know I'm saved I don't have to go and seek God because I know that I'm saved I'm born again, I'm no longer just daddy and mommy's child, I became a child of God and I know that I know Uncle Peter, I have no doubt, I'm saved Now, Uncle Peter stood up and he had a stick [00:23:39] and everybody was in dead silence at Noel's braveness and his answer. And Uncle Peter began to walk. And he walked up to Noel, everybody watching him, every single person, including Seth, including Roy. And a little tear came down his face. This old man, close to death, and he smiled and he said, Noel, you were very courageous, boy, to answer like that. [00:24:13] Thank you, Noel. Thank you, Noel. It's all that matters in life, Noel. Noel, until you know what you have said you know, You wasted life and its opportunities. Thank you Noel. You did well boy. [00:24:45] In what you said in front of all these people. Then he walked out toward the kitchen door. To the back garden where all the vehicles from all the family had come. Parked under the trees, not in the front, but in the farms right in the back. where you come to the kitchen. Well, everybody got up. Uncle Peter was going. It was time for everybody. They decided to show the whole lot of getting. Come children, we're going. Everybody gets in their cars. Everybody drives off. And Grandpa, Yanni, their grandpa, [00:25:19] who owned the farm, he was waving to the people as the last cars pulled off and he took a citrus, you know the citrus farm? He took an orange or notch or something and he was peeling it and he leaned against this tree then close to the kitchen door where all the cars were parked under the trees and he was just watching the last cars going and suddenly he heard two voices the other side of the tree who didn't know grandpa was this side of the tree listening, it was Roy and Roy said to Noel the other side of the tree [00:25:53] No! How could you say what you said in front of all those people? How could you say that? How can you say you know that you're going to heaven and not hell? How can you say you know you're saved, you know where, you know when? I can't say that. I can't say that, no. How could you be so, how could you know? How could you stand in front of everybody and say that the way you did? [00:26:25] My grandpa thought to himself, that's amazing. Roy has never ever listened to a message, even if it's a children's message. He's looking at something to do, pull the girl's hair or kick somebody or do something outrageous, but he's never listened. He's actually concerned about his soul. He's actually showing interest about his soul. Isn't that a bit... Grandpa stopped peeling and he looked through the big branches. They didn't know Grandpa was listening. Roy is actually asking about salvation. [00:26:56] And Noah was shaken also. And Noah looked at Roy a bit unnerved and then he said, well Roy, do you see this swing that Grandpa put here in the tree for us children? Yes. Well, it was a good while ago I was sitting on this swing, and I was alone, here on the farm, just on this swing, and Roy, I began to think of all the things I've heard, that you're not born a Christian, even if you're born into a family where your father's a preacher, a missionary, who loves God, it doesn't make you a Christian. [00:27:38] you have to have a meeting with God you have to seek God yourself it isn't pressure from anybody it's you and God and it all just hit me I've never done that with my heart I've never done that in a way that I can say honestly I know God saved me and I began to fear what happens if I die? I began to sit there thinking what happens even if daddy's a Christian and a preacher and mommy's so That's a Christian, he's so lovely. [00:28:10] What happens if I die? Where will I go? And I began to get scared. And I began to think of all my sins, all the things that are wrong in my heart and my mind. And I knew I was going to go to hell if I died, and I got on my knees. And I asked God to help me, and everything I could think of that I heard being preached, and everybody sharing and talking about how to be saved. Here, at the swing, on my knees, I began to cry, and I cried out to God, because of the death of Christ to forgive me because of Christ's death and blood [00:28:41] for he paid for my sins to be forgiven. He took the punishment and I put my faith in Jesus Christ's death and I asked God as I came with Jesus Christ's death for the salvation of my soul by faith and that God would not only forgive me but change me and stop me from these things that I know are wrong and I asked God that I would know I didn't have to fear anymore ever again that I am his child [00:29:13] and God saved me right there in my knees that I've never doubted I knew when I stood up from my knees God has answered my prayer and I'm never going to have to pray this again in my life God saved me Roy looked at him, Grandpa looking through the branches stunned and Roy says So you absolutely soar from the moment you stood up. Yes, no. Yes, Roy. Well, Roy says, I have to do the same. [00:29:48] And I want to do it now. Because I'm going to hell, there's no doubt of that. So, no looks at him and no surprise, Grandpa's looking now, alarmed. Because trust me, I've seen Grandpa run, that he nearly died. You won't believe that. He nearly killed him to stop Roy from doing something that you won't believe. Grandpa, which is his naughty child, is actually wanting to see. So Roy says, which side of the swing did you kneel? If you saw Roy, you'd know why he speaks like this and says outrageous. [00:30:19] Which side? That side. I want to do it right. I want to be in the spot. I don't want to be on the other side. Which side? This side Roy. Oh, okay. He gets on his knees. This spot, yes. Okay, you kneel the other side of me now, the other side of the swing. Now you don't make any mistake. No, I don't want to go to hell. I want God to save me like he saved you. Now Roy, you tell me exactly what you prayed. Sentence by sentence, word by word. I'm going to pray exactly. I don't want to make any mistake here. God's got to save me here. [00:30:51] Oh, you would pray exactly what you prayed Oh, so Noel looking at him Grandpa looking at Roy on his knees and wanting to be saved and Noel prays sentence by sentence by sentence a lot of doctrine in there about Christ's death receiving Christ as your savior many has received him to then give you the power to become the children of God Well, there they are now both on their knees and then Roy stands up Noel stands up Noel had his mouth open, Grandpa says literally shocked at what had happened [00:31:24] Roy says, now Noel that means I'm saved now, doesn't it? Noel just looked at him Noel, I'm saved now tell me I'm saved I'm saved now, I did exactly what you said that means I'm saved I'm not going to hell, I'm God's child, is that right? Noel just looks at him Grandpa looked at Noel and thought well why don't you answer him? but Noel just looked, he couldn't speak, he just looks at Roy Why don't you answer me? I'm saved now. [00:31:54] This is exactly what you tell me. Am I saved or am I still going to hell? I'm not going to hell anymore. Is that right? Noel just looks at him. And then Noel said these words. Roy, I can't tell you right now, but I'll be able to tell you by tomorrow. Roy looks at Noel and says, are you crazy? all this and you can't tell me you knew when you got up [00:32:25] why can't I know what's wrong with you then he lost his temper, got angry and went over in a terrible huff you know and grandpa said whoa that was wisdom that most preachers don't have that this little boy had I can't tell you now I can tell you tomorrow and I'll be sure but I can't be sure now not yet So now Roy is going off with a few bad words that I don't know if you've ever heard [00:32:55] and leaves Noel utterly stunned and walking in a circle So Grandpa, he stood around because of what Noel had said and it was a little while later he said it wasn't even two hours later outside there that he heard Noel screaming with a loud voice Roy! Yes! No! You don't have to wait for tomorrow, I can tell you now, you're still going to hell. Well, Grandpa said Roy was doing something terrible. [00:33:29] He never told me what Roy was doing, but it was terrible and all just shouted. Ah, you don't have to wait for tomorrow, I can tell you now, you're still going to hell. And then Roy turned in anger and carried on doing what he was doing. Oh, time went on. Time went on, one night Roy got alone with God on his knees, with an open Bible and began to weep, and he began to groan before God to save his soul, he groaned and he agonized and cried to God as he looked to Christ [00:34:16] with all his soul and might, every faculty of his being. And God saved Roy. And the first one to ever say it publicly was Noel. One day, I wasn't there, but I overheard in a room full of people, Noel raised his voice like Uncle Peter. And he said, Roy! Until everybody, until everybody just looked at Noel. Roy! Yes, Noel. And Noel said these words with the tears coming down his face and a smile. [00:34:52] Now I'm sure, Roy. Now I'm sure you're saved. Now I know you're God's child, Roy. You're born again. Because of your life, Roy. because of your life, Roy. [00:35:32] The day Roy stopped schooling, he wanted to be a missionary from the day he was saved. he went to a place where the mission society trains you because they all weren't born Mennonites you know so Roy had to go through what 90 something percent of every mission on earth requires theological training to know that you don't go out there and preach heresy and he's preached to many many multitudes of people [00:36:02] and he's brought many many Many, many, many, many souls to Christ As he chased down the streets As he went into dangerous areas And as he preached in pulpits That perhaps were too much of a privilege to give a young man As they trusted him because of his fire The fire burning in his heart With the word of God And by the way The psychologist had said to us [00:36:34] Because one day, Mr. Daniel and Mrs. Daniel, when your son becomes mature and you can't press a button, you will be glad that he's hypoactive. That's a hundred times worse than hyperactive. Until then you'll age. But when it happens, you'll be glad you've got this son because whatever he focuses on, when he's able to focus and concentrate and pour all his energy, He's going to leave everybody in the dust, whatever he wants to do. [00:37:06] And it's true. The boy unnerves everybody. He's so ablaze for God and he can't believe what he's doing for God. Every faculty of his being all the time even exhausts me looking at him. But I bless God for him. So God did something there because of your life, Roy. Therefore if any man be in Christ Jesus He is a new creature [00:37:36] All things are passed away Behold, look No Look Look, God can say And you can't argue All things have changed All things have become new Hallelujah Hereby we do know that we know him. If we keep his commandments, he that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar. [00:38:15] Perhaps you're lying to yourself. That's the greatest lie you'll ever hear in your life. You believe a lie. Though everything condemns you and nothing confirms. He's a liar, God says. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. What is it, prophet, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? Can faith save him, if a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, [00:38:47] and one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed, and still, notwithstanding, He gives them not those things which are needful to the body, what of the profit? Even so, faith, if it hath not works, is dead, worthless, being alone. Yea, man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works. In Jesus Christ's name, Amen. Beloved, tomorrow night, Saturday night, 7 o'clock, is that right? Good. You come back now, we will know who's missed the meeting, and we'll know why.
